Flowers Deep Dive

I've been dabbling in flower photography for a while now but this winter I started to get more serious. When I say serious, I mean serious fun! I contacted one of my photography heroes - Charles Needle - and asked him for his help. Oh boy, talk about inspirational! Charles is a gifted artist with a wonderful reputation as a true professional who loves to share his joy in capturing the beauty of flowers with his camera. One of his favorite techniques is to use a close up lens to explore the hidden shapes and textures of his favorite flowers in abstract style. I took Charles' advice and "spent an hour with a flower"  - actually quite a bit more than an hour! By zooming in and out and using the focus ring, I took my time exploring a whole new world of lines, textures and shapes. The image above "Calming Flow" is one of the results of that exploration.
